The Architecture of Mountains- series statement below
The Architecture of Mountains extends the vision of my Zion series, continuing my exploration of the photograph as a painterly medium. For this body of work, I used a low-orbit satellite as my eye in the sky—an instrument I could direct to photograph specific remote locations on Earth. These raw images, transmitted directly to me, were stripped of drama: flat, muted, and technical in nature. Through color, contrast, and tonal intervention, I reimagined these datasets, translating them into atmospheric compositions that evoke the spiritual presence of land. Immense mountain forms and immeasurable distances are rendered intimate, even fragile—flattened and abstracted into layered gestures that echo painting more than conventional photography. These works invite the viewer to consider a new kind of landscape: one mediated by technology, yet deeply rooted in the emotional and aesthetic language of natural form.
